Clinical

For the treatment of chronic pain conditions

Clinical massage aims to treat acute and chronic soft tissue pain in the body.  It is a non invasive treatment which incorporates many of the strokes used in Swedish, Deep Tissue and Stone work; as well as more advanced massage techniques such as trigger point therapy, myofascial release, acupressure and stretching.  However their is an evidence based reason why one modality is applied over another with the ultimate focus being on measurable outcomes in the reduction of pain.

I work in a holistic way.  The body is looked at as a whole rather than a set of isolated muscles; with the understanding that pain is often referred and so where the pain is felt, isn't necessarily where the problem is.  Since everyone is an individual and affected by their pain condition/injury in a different way I aim to treat the whole person rather then just the symptoms. I also look at what may have caused the pain/injury and how to prevent it reoccurring in the future.

Chronic pain conditions are rarely treated in just one clinical massage session.  It is recommended that a client has a weekly session for up to 6 weeks before satisfaction/improvement can be assessed.  By the third session I will know If I'm being effective in treating the condition or whether the individual needs to be referred somewhere else for further treatment.

Home care advice such as specific stretches or self treatment of trigger points are given to the client to do in between sessions which is important for reducing recovery time and the number of treatments needed as well as putting the client back in control of their own healing.

Clinical massage is for treating acute/chronic pain conditions/injury in a specific area of the body and so the length of treatment may be shorter.  However this work can be incorporated into a longer full body massage so as to bring about total mind/body relaxation and healing.

Clinical massage involves mixing and matching a number of the different treatments I offer as well as trigger point therapy, myofascial release, acupressure and stretching so as to create a personalised session/ treatment plan based on the individuals needs.  Prices and Availability
