Deep tissue

To further release muscular tension and restriction

Deep tissue massage uses the same ‘strokes’ as a Swedish massage except as the name suggests it involves working deeper into the layers of muscle and fascia (the connective tissue surrounding muscles).

The main aim of deep tissue massage is to focus on areas of chronic muscular tension/restriction, aches/pains and stiffness that usually develop from poor posture/body mechanics, injury or overuse.

Deep tissue massage involves breaking up scar tissue, realigning muscle fibers and softening ‘knots’ or adhesion’s (bands of painful, rigid tissue) that can disrupt circulation and cause pain and reduced range of movement.  Forearms, elbows, soft fists and finger pads are used in create more specific depth, whilst the ‘strokes’ are slower and less rhythmic then those of a Swedish massage; allowing the body time to relax into the pressure being applied.

There may be areas of discomfort but it’s more of a satisfying feel good pain.  In fact many clients report a deeper level of relaxation and longer lasting therapeutic benefits from this type of massage.

This treatment is normally spent working solely on problematic areas of the body but can be enjoyed as a 75/90min full body massage when combined with more traditional Swedish strokes.

A deep tissue session may be mixed and matched with any of the other treatments I offer in order to create a personalised treatment based on your needs.  Prices and Availability

The Benefits...
  • Especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, lower back tightness, and sore knotted shoulders.  It is also beneficial to athletes or sports people who often suffer from muscle injuries as a result of tight muscles.
  • Deep tissue is one of the best and most effective ways to treat pain and injury.
  • It relaxes stiff muscles and restores pain free movement.
  • It improves mobility by enhancing tissue elasticity and the flexibility of joints.
  • Deep tissue techniques elongate muscle tissue and therefore help to realign the body to a correct posture, making you more aware of correct posture and thus improving postural problems.
  • The slow deep pressure applied breaks up' and loosens tight knotted muscles; allowing oxygen and nutrients to circulate more freely around the body.
  • A build up of toxins is released from constricted muscles thus reducing inflammation and pain as well as having a detoxifying effect on the body.
  • By working deeper into the layers of the body, there is a greater connection to the emotional self; as tension and stress is unlocked from our bodies emotional healing becomes possible.
  • Stress related conditions are improved.
